Hydrangeas at Fujinomori Shrine

Spring is coming to a close, and after the rainy season of June, Kyoto will enter the hot and humid summer. Flow-ers and foliage are growing profusely in the warmth of Kyoto’s spring. We are at Fujinomori Shrine in the south of the city, which has a history that counts back to the third century. This shrine is known as the birthplace of the “Iris Festival” celebrated in May. Its forested area where multitudes of pastel colored hydrangeas bloom around the rainy season is a famous spot to view hydrangeas, flowers that are floral symbols of the rainy season.
