As a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Kyoto, Nippon Shinyaku is engaged in activities to preserve and maintain Kyoto culture.

As part of this effort, since 1954, the company has been publishing Kyo, a quarterly magazine with original pictures on the cover and a calendar composed of original pictures created using dyeing techniques such as Katae Dyeing and Rouketsu Dyeing, featuring scenes and events in Kyoto.

We hope that you will feel the four seasons of Kyoto through the works of the teachers at the Kyoto Gallery, which introduces more than 300 original paintings.

What is a Dyeing?

There are various dyeing techniques of the author.
Kata e-zome is a method of dyeing by putting a dye proof paste on the fabric from the carved pattern paper and soaking it in dye solution.

Calendar

The calendar we have been producing since 1953 (Showa 28) won the Japan Printing Industry Association Chairman's Award at the National Calendar Exhibition in 1959. After that, they continue to produce it every year with the themes of seasonal scenery, scenery and history of Kyoto. Please take a look at the themes and original pictures set for each year along with explanations from experts.
